EnhanceFitness

Low-cost, one hour supervised classes for a five-week session of three classes per week. Components of the class include strength training with wrist and ankle weights, aerobics, balance and stretching. It is designed to be safe and effective for seniors with a wide range of physical abilities and can transition to a self-maintained home program.

This program was developed in partnership between Senior Services of Seattle/King County, Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound, and the University of Washington Health Promotion Research Center. Studies have shown a marked improvement in participants' physical and social functioning, as well as a decline in areas such as pain, fatigue, and depression.

Sites in Maine include:  Lifeline at the University of Southern Maine (Master Trainer site), Friends of Community Fitness in Sangerville, Penobscot Bay YMCA, Waldo County YMCA, Sisters of Charity Health System in Lewiston, Millinocket Regional Hospital, and Somerset Sports and Fitness in Skowhegan.
