On October 30th, the Northern New England Poison Center held a special dinner to honor and thank Sam Ristich, a volunteer consultant. Sam was presented with a special plaque, thanking him for his dedicated service.
Ristich, 86, is a resident of North Yarmouth, Maine, and has been working with the NNEPC for twelve years. In 2002, he has been consulted on eight-six mushroom exposures, forty of which were in the month of October alone.
The self-proclaimed "mushroom guru" is willing to take calls at any time of the day, which allows for quick identifications for hospital emergency rooms, pediatricians, and law enforcement. Sam is an invaluable resource for the state of Maine, and his services are greatly appreciated!
