National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers The Breast Care Center at Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute has been awarded a full, three-year accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), administered by the American College of Surgeons, in 2010. MMC is the first hospital in the state, and one of only a few in New England, to receive the prestigious accreditation.
Earning the NAPBC Accreditation means an organization excels in patient care, and has met or exceeded standards in six areas: center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement. Centers must be compliant with 27 standards within these six areas. The Breast Care Center at Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute was 100 percent compliant.

Association of Community Cancer Centers - Model Cancer Program Maine Medical Center’s Cancer Institute (MMCCI) in Scarborough was selected as one of five model cancer programs in the U.S. by the Association of Community Cancer Centers in 2009. MMCCI was chosen as a model for its multidisciplinary approach to prostate cancer care, open communication, and patient access to state-of-the-art treatment within the community.

Nursing Professionals “2009 Top 100 Hospitals to Work For” The ratings are based on a survey that measured job satisfaction of 25,000 randomly-selected hospital nurses throughout the country. “This is a tribute to the caliber of people we have at the medical center and their ability to work as a team,” says Marge Wiggins, Vice President of Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer. “When you have terrific people doing outstanding work, the bar is set high, attracting the very best.”

U.S. News & World Report America’s Best Hospitals - 2008 #41 in Gynecology Maine Medical Center appears in the 2008 U.S.News and World Report “America’s Best Hospitals” rankings, for the second year in a row. Only 170 medical centers of the 5,453 evaluated made any of the lists. MMC is ranked number 41 in the “Gynecology” category. Learn more.

Hospitals & Health Networks Magazine “Most Wireless Hospitals” Maine Medical Center has been named one of the nation’s “Most Wireless Hospitals”, according to the 2008 Most Wireless Survey and Benchmarking Study released in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. Learn more.

Commission on Cancer Accreditation Maine Medical Center was granted a three-year accreditation with commendation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer in 2010. MMC is the only teaching hospital in Maine to be awarded this highest level of CoC approval.
The medical center is also one of only two hospitals in all of New England to be awarded the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award for exceptional performance.

U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Medal of Honor for Organ Donation Success
Maine Medical Center is one of only four New England hospitals to receive this recognition for organ procurement success. Only 42 hospitals in the country received this first-ever medal. The minimum donation rate for the recognition is 75%; MMC's is 86%.
