Admission Requirements

• Completed application form with $ 50 non-refundable fee
• Psychological Services Bureau (PSB), Health Occupations Aptitude Examination with scores above the 50th percentile
• Successful completion of High School diploma or equivalent (remittance of official transcripts required)
• Remittance of other official transcripts, i.e. college, vocational school, nursing assistant course
• Two work and three character references indicating that an applicant is a good candidate (to be listed on application and contacted by us)
• Personal interview with a member of the admission committee, provided all criteria are met
• Current certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association (if admitted, must be valid prior to start of classes for duration of program)

Follow the steps below to complete your application for admission:

1. Download, print and return the Maine Medical Center School of Surgical Technology application
2. Include non-refundable application fee of $50
   -Make checks payable to: MMC School of Surgical Technology
   -To pay by credit card, download credit card payment form here or call the School to pay by phone at (207) 741-5589 Monday-Thursday 8am-3pm. NO CASH PLEASE.
3. Print, sign and return to the School your applicant authorization forms  (two pages, 6 signatures) for us to obtain references from the names you provide
4. Mail to:

Applications close when a complete class of qualified applicants is achieved. Applications from qualified individuals received after closing may be considered on a space available basis or for the succeeding class. A limited number of students is selected for each class.

Health Occupations Aptitude Examination

Maine Medical Center's School of Surgical Technology requires all applicants to take the PSB (Psychological Services Bureau) Health Occupations Aptitude Examination as part of the admission requirements. This entrance exam is designed to give us a sense of your strengths and weaknesses, and we look for scores above the 50 percentile range in order to move forward in the application process.

About the Test
The PSB Exam is a computer-based, timed test consisting of five sections and taking approximately 2 ½ hours. The exam is administered by Maine Medical Center (MMC) at Southern Maine Community College (SMCC). Testing is held once every other month.

Testing months are as follows: January, March, May, July, September, and November.
