Outside magazine named Portland the East Coast's best town for outdoor sporting and overall quality of life as part of its "Top 25 Dream Towns" in America. The article cited several qualities that contribute to the city's appeal, including the waterfront, a low cost of living, and easy access to ski slopes, hiking trails and waterways. (August 2010)

5. Friendly and Hardworking People - While we're Yankees (but not necessarily Yankees fans) Maine people are warm and hardworking. You'll be impressed by your colleagues' dedication and passion for their work.

6. Excellent Schools - Maine communities offer a wide array of public, private and magnet schools.
